About:-

When the club was formed in October 1965 the inaugural membership was 20. The original
club room was a small dirt floor pavilion at the show grounds.

The club rooms are now situated on Kendalls Rd and we have just been granted land
extension which will enable us to erect another building, which is needed for our expanding
number of members.

We have a couple of founding members still with us,  along with a few lifetime members.
We hold sessions on Saturday mornings that are mainly attended by the junior members
and can be quite hectic at times.

Our committee meets on the 3rd Tuesday of every month in the club rooms at 7pm start.

Club Shows & Events:-

Our major club competition is held when the Bundaberg Regional Show is on,  at this time, in
which we display all competition entries, with the prize winners taking away monetary prizes
supplied by the Regional Show Council.  This usually takes place about the end of May /
beginning of June.
(Dates can be found from www.bundabergshow.com.au )

The club also hold an annual Gem Fair, this attracts traders from around Australia,
specifically QLD.  This event is usually held early November each year, but the dates can
vary, depending on other Council bookings at that time.  For more information you are
better off contacting one of the club members or the club during session times.

Tips & Safety On Field Trips

  • Take every precaution while on field trips like making sure you have the right gear like gloves,
boots, drinking water and basic supplies.
  • Fill in your holes after digging and beware of overhanging rocks and ledges that could collapse
    while digging below.
  • Don't go into old mine shafts as most are unstable and air quality can never be guaranteed.
  • Always wear safety glasses when breaking or chiselling on rocks.
  • Watch out for snakes and spiders because as a rock hound you're more prone to finding these
    critters than others.
  • Always close gates after you and always take your rubbish home with you if there isn't a proper
    place to leave it.
  • Always tell someone where you are before you leave in case something goes wrong!
  • Always have a first aid kit close by.
  • If you haven't been to an area before draw yourself a map or have a map with you so you don't
get lost. Mobile phones don't work everywhere!
  • Wear a good hat and sunscreen so you don't get sunburnt.
  • Never forget: FOOD, SNACKS, DRINKS & MEDICATION.
